Older (and Wiser) Singles
What a gratifying experience I had recently.
I was hired as a keynote speaker for a group called Singles Place. They wanted me to speak about the premise behind SELL Her You Love Her, my as yet unpublished book. When I got there, it turned out to be a group of around 50 people, ranging in age from late 40s to early 70s. They were all vital, energetic and interesting singles, who regularly attend various social groups to share dinners, dancing, bowling, etc. As I am middle-aged, I found it encouraging to see so many enthusiastic older singles enjoying all elements of their lives.
Speaking to a group like this was new and different for me. Many members of the audience are/were highly successful in their careers. They were not an easy sell. They asked probing questions to make sure I wasn't blowing smoke. Several challenged my concepts regarding sales techniques even before applying those methods to relationships. They wanted to assure themselves of my expertise in sales (which many of them knew in depth) to establish my credibility. Once they accepted that I knew my stuff regarding building long-term relationships in the sales arena, they were ready to explore how sales principles can benefit all of us in our personal relationships. I found it very exciting to face an audience who has so much experience and who refuses to waste valuable time. As my friend would say, they don't suffer fools...they cut right through the BS.
I had a ball and received requests for future speaking engagements. What a coo!
I left feeling invigorated and looking forward to a return visit.
Young or old, being single has its challenges. It's nice to know there is a group like Singles Place.
